11 dead of suspected food poisoning at Indian temple ceremony

KARNATAKA: At least 11 people died of suspected food poisoning after eating at a ceremony to celebrate the construction of a new Hindu temple in southern India, the media reported.

According to police officials, 93 people have been hospitalised of which 23 are in critical condition.

The police further said that samples have been collected for chemical analysis of food that was served to devotees following a temple foundation laying ceremony in Chamarajnagar district of Karnataka state.

They vomited, complained of severe stomach pain and were taken to nearby hospitals, authorities added.

Further, police detained two members of the temple’s management for questioning, Indian media reported.
