KARACHI: At least 11 people including women and children were killed and 32 others sustained severe wounds after a five-storey residential building collapsed in Rizvia Society Goli Mar area here on Thursday.
Receiving information about the mishap, the rescue officials and police personnel arrived at the scene and launched operation. The victims were shifted to the hospital for medical assistance.
Police officers told that the builder was constructing fifth floor on the four-storey building due to which it caved in. They further stated a number of people are still suspected to be trapped under the rubble.
Muttahida Qaumi Movement-Pakistan (MQM-P) leader Rehan Hashmi talking to media outside the Abbasi Shaheed Hospital said that at least 32 injured were brought to Abbasi hospital out of which 20 were discharged after getting first aid.
Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah and Governor Sindh Imran Ismail took notice of the incident and expressed grief over the loss of precious lives. The CM Murad has also summoned a report from Commissioner Karachi.

report from the concerned authorities.Inspector General of Police Mushtaq Mahar has directed Central Senior Superintendent of Police Mohammad Arif Aslam Rao to head the rescue operation in the area.
Three residential buildings in the city’s Golimar area collapsed on Thursday, killing 11 and wounding more than a dozen people, officials said. MLO Abbasi Shaheed Hospital informed that bodies of seven women, three children and one man were brought after the incident. At least 18 people were wounded in the incident, said Police surgeon Dr Qarrar Abbasi.
“Among those who have been identified in the building collapse are Haider, Maryam, Yahya, Hira and Ghulam Mustafa,” she said. One woman had also died in the building collapse but authorities had not been able to identify her yet. Rescue sources informed that two children were also rescued.
Those wounded were shifted to a nearby medical facility. Army and Karachi Metropolitan Corporation’s team also reached the site of incident to aid the rescue operations.
According to police, three buildings collapsed in the area, with one of them being completely destroyed, while major part of the other two buildings was razed to the ground. Police said that the fourth building near the three collapsed buildings was also declared unsafe.
Following the incident, Chief Minister Sindh Murad Ali Shah directed deputy Commissioner Karachi to reach the site, according to CM Sindh’s spokesman.
