BAKU: Chair of the SBS, Colonel-General Elchin Guliyev said in a letter wrote to the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Supreme Commander-in-Chief of Armed Forces Ilham Aliyev on Tuesday that the boarder forces had destroyed 290 targets of Armenian Armed Forces during Karabakh conflict.
“Enemy’s strategically-important combat equipment, rocket systems, missile-rocket complexes, tanks, armored combat equipment, and other weapons, command control points, and numerous manpower were neutralized, in total 290 enemy targets were destroyed, as a result of professional application of ‘Harop’, ‘Kuzgun’, ‘Hermes’ Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs) by the State Border Service (SBS)” noted in the letter. “High appreciation of combat abilities of our military servicemen, demonstrated heroism examples, by Your Excellency, awarding 41 Azerbaijani border servicemen title of “Hero of Patriotic War”, Orders of “Zafar” (“Victory”) and “Karabakh” have been welcomed by personnel of the State Border Service with great enthusiasm.
I express our deep gratitude to You on behalf of myself and all military servicemen of the State Border Service for your high attention and care, great belief in Azerbaijan’s border servicemen,” he noted. Earlier Monday a watchdog group released a report said, Armenian forces had carried out at least 11 unlawful, indiscriminate rocket and missile strikes during the recent Karabakh war against Azerbaijan, which international courts may hold Yerevan accountable for. As a result of on-site investigations conducted by Human Rights Watch (HRW), it was determined that Armenia’s military conducted illegal attacks on Azerbaijan during the hostilities in September and November. The fighting began on Sept. 27, when Armenian forces targeted civilian Azerbaijani settlements and military positions in the region, leading to casualties.
Relations between the two ex-Soviet republics have been tense since 1991, when the Armenian military occupied Upper Karabakh, or Nagorno-Karabakh, an internationally recognized territory of Azerbaijan.
Multiple UN resolutions, as well as many international organizations, demand the withdrawal of the invading forces. The OSCE Minsk Group – co-chaired by France, Russia, and the US – was formed in 1992 to find a peaceful solution to the conflict, but to no avail. A cease-fire, however, was agreed upon in 1994.
Many world powers, including Russia, France, and the US, have urged an immediate cease-fire. Turkey, meanwhile, has supported Baku’s right to self-defense and demanded the withdrawal of Armenia’s occupying forces. Meanwhile Tuesday Deputy Siyavush Novruzov at the meeting of Azerbaijani Parliament (Milli Majlis) said “We have already completed military part of the war. Parliament and its Deputies, Diaspora organizations, bloggers, social media users, and cultural figures should be active in the second part,”.
Deputy said that our soldiers were fighting with a visible enemy: “Unvisible enemies have already started activity in the second stage. We should present Armenian brutality to the world community, at the same time we should deliver Azerbaijan’s victory to the world. Picasso had a work, named “Kerameikos”. The writer could be able to deliver destruction of Kerameikos city to the whole world with a work. Our creative persons should also play an active role in this work.”
