3 cops suspended after accused ‘commits suicide’ in Police custody

ISLAMABAD: IGP Islamabad Muhammad Aamir Zulfiqar has suspended three cop officials over negligence and inability to handle an accused at large, who committed suicide at PS Khanna.
According to details, Zaheer Ahmed, R/O Ashraf Town, Pindorian, Islamabad, lodged a complaint at PS Khanna on 4th March that his sister-in-law Gul Nayab, residing with his family since her childhood, had been kidnapped by some Usman, at gunpoint. He reported that the accused had stormed into the house threatening his family members and kidnapped his sister-in-law after firing.
Thus the cops registered an FIR under the relevant sections and efforts began for the recovery of the abducted girl. A police team managed to recover the victim from the accused’s home while the culprit managed to escape from the scene. The girl then gave her statement that the accused Usman wanted to marry her and threatened to commit suicide after murdering her. Soon the accused also reached PS Khanna and shot himself then and there. He got injured and was immediately shifted to PIMS where he succumed to his injuries. It is pertinent to mention here that the accused Usman was already nominated in a case earlier while his mother had disowned him in an advertisement published in the newspaper.
IGP Islamabad took serious notice of the incident and ordered to suspend Moharrar, duty officer and cop deputed at the gate of the police station. He has also constituted an investigation team headed by SP Zubair Sheikh which will give a detailed report within two days, about the incident.
