3 die, four missing as rain, flood, land sliding hit GB, Azad Kashmir

Amid heavy rains, flooding and land sliding, seven people were swept away in flash floods in Gopas Khalti area of Gilgit Baltistan on Thursday.

The dead bodies of three people including a woman were found while four others were still missing. A minor was also rescue who was being swept away in Gaddar as floods have wreaked havoc in the area. The relief operation were underway.

Land sliding and heavy flood hit Azad Kashmir Gilgit Baltistan’s Babusar Top areas which has led to closure of main road on two points in Gilgit on Thursday, reported 24NewsHDTV Channel.

Faiz Ullah, spokesman of Gilgit-Baltistan government said that one vehicle was hit by land sliding resulting in injury of a minor. The main road has been shut from Babusar zero point and Babusar top. The tourists and passengers have been stopped at safest points as flood has hit several houses and crops. Diamir police and local administration has reached the site as government has ordered the quick restoration of blocked road.

Meanwhile heavy rains continue to lash various areas in Azad Jammu and Kashmir including Muzaffarabad, Hattian Bala, Rawalakot and Abbottabad. One man drowned in a nullah during the flooding. Several road were reported to be closed due to floods in streams. Moreover due to heavy rains, the water level in Jhelum river has also jump up.

One person drowns in drain Muzaffarabad Abbottabad Road closed from Lohar Gali and Bani Hafiz Road Barhoor due to landslide.

According to the Met office, rain and thunderstorms are likely in Azad Kashmir during the next 24 hours. The NDMA has directed tourists and citizens to be cautious and avoid unnecessary travel in view of the risk of landslides.

According to report, 13 people have died, 10 have been injured and 366 livestock have been killed due to rains and landslides since June 1. A total of 27 houses were completely destroyed, 14 were partially destroyed, and several shops, vehicles, motorcycles, bridges and water mills were damaged in different districts. –Agencies
