BISHKEK: “Cholponbai Tuleberdiev is one of our heroes who, at the cost of his life, defended his homeland from invaders. Our holy duty is to preserve the memory of the great feat of our fathers and grandfathers, such as Cholponbai Tuleberdiev and pass it on to the younger generation of Kyrgyzstanis. Today we live in peacetime. We owe this to our dear veterans who are among us today and to those heroes who have not returned from the war,” said President Sooronbay Jeenbekov, today, May 7, at the opening of the monument to Hero of the Soviet Union Cholponbai Tuleberdiev.
The monument was erected in the park of the same name in Bishkek, the President’s press service said.
The head of state noted that the Victory Day is a great holiday, which was achieved with very large losses – about 27 million people were killed during the war from the entire Soviet Union.
Sooronbay Jeenbekov emphasized, the Great Patriotic War affected every city, every village and every family in Kyrgyzstan. 365 thousand people left the republic for the war, a third of whom did not return home. Over 150 thousand Kyrgyzstanis were awarded various orders and medals.
Cholponbai Tuleberdiev joined the Red Army in 1941, being a 19-year-old boy.
The monument to Cholponbai Tuleberdiev was opened in the park of the same name in the western part of the Kyrgyz capital, which was reconstructed on by the Bishkek Mayor’s Office.
Mayor of Bishkek Aziz Surakmatov and Ambassador of the Russian Federation to the Kyrgyz Republic Nikolay Udovichenko took part in the opening of the monument to Cholponbai Tuleberdiev. – Agencies
