ISLAMABAD: Islamabad Operational Police and Counter Terrorism Department (CTD) conducted a joint operation at Dhok Qureshian area of PS Golra, on the wee hours of Friday and nabbed two Afghan nationals involved in murdering of two cops while firing at a police picket on 26th May.
According to details, at a tip off, Islamabad Operational police and CTD conducted joint operation at Dhok Qureshian area at PS Golra jurisdiction area. During the operation, some culprits opened firing at the police teams following which the cops promptly responded and succeeded to arrest two while their two other accomplices managed to escape under the cover of fire and took advantage of darkness. The nabbed accused were identified as Sajjad alias Chocho s/o Nosherwan and Nur Muhammad alias Nurme s/o Multan Khan. IGP Islamabad Muhammad Aamir Zulfiqar and DIG Operations Waqar-ud-Din Syed appreciated the overall performance of the police teams. However, it is worthwhile to mention here that ASIs Mohsin Zafar and Sajjad were shot dead by unidentified assailants as they started inspection at Chungi No. 26 on 26th May. There had been some crime incidents in Rawalpindi area and as the information was received on wireless, the hunt had begun. The cops managed to intercept the culprits and tried to inspect their bag following which the crooks opened fire on the cops, murdering them in cold blood. Following the incident, IGP Islamabad directed DIG Operations to hunt down the assassins and bring them to book as soon as possible. Three teams were constituted for this purpose which included SSP CTD Dr. Syed Mustafa Tanveer, SP CTD Farooq Amjad Butar, SP Saddar Sarfaraz Virk, DSP CIA Hakim Khan, SHO CTD Fiaz Ranjha, Inspector Shamas-ul-Akbar and other police officials. The given teams investigated the case on technical grounds and succeeded to arrest two culprits after joint operation.
Moreover, during preliminary investigation, the accused have confessed of murdering two policemen at Chungi No, 26 on 26th May and also of opening fire at cops performing duties near Carriage Factory on IJP Road, resulting in death of the cops Sagheer Haider Saqlain, Khurram Shehzad and injuries to Jehanzeb. They have confessed of committing several dacoities in various areas of the twin cities. Further investigation is underway from the accused. Raids are being conducted to ensure arrest of the rest of the absconding criminals of the gang. IGP Islamabad has announced cash prizes and commendation certificates for the police teams.
