BISHKEK: Kyrgyzstan added 569 confirmed COVID-19 cases on Wednesday, taking its total to 38,110.
Ainura Akmatova, head of the public health care department of the country’s health ministry, told a daily news briefing that 20 of the new cases are medical workers, bringing the total number of contracted medical workers to 2,874, including 1,934 recoveries. She said 767 patients have recovered over the past day, bringing the total recoveries to 29,510. The virus-related death tally climbed to 1,438, with 11 more recorded in the previous 24 hours.
Currently, there are 7,170 active cases in the country, all of whom are receiving treatment in hospital.
On Tuesday, at a meeting of the Republican headquarters on COVID-19, Kyrgyz Prime Minister Kubatbek Boronov noted the decrease in morbidity and mortality rates in the country, the government’s press service said.
Boronov stressed the importance of further reducing the incidence and mortality rates of coronavirus infection, noting that the situation remains difficult in some regions.
“All over the territory of the republic, including in areas with a favorable epidemiological situation, all sanitary and epidemiological security measures should be strengthened,” he said.
Meanwhile, Kyrgyzstan has started the construction of new hospitals in Batken and Naryn Oblasts, according to the Republican headquarters on COVID-19.
In addition, in order to raise awareness among people, domestic IT specialists, together with specialists from the country’s health ministry, have developed a single COVID-19 information platform, where government agencies will post information about work being carried out.
