Karachi: Pacer Wahab Riaz has revealed that he has aimed to play for Pakistan till the 2023 World Cup, scheduled to take place in India.
The 35-year-old believes that he still feels young as he works on fitness very much. “If I am able to execute performances for Pakistan, my ultimate goal is to feature till the 2023 World Cup and if I am able to execute my performances,” Wahab said while speaking to a YouTube channel ‘Cricket Baaz with Waheed Khan.
Wahab said that his pace is natural and he has not lost it even after playing for more than 10 years. “My pace is naturally developed and I don’t feel like it has cut down. I was bowling above 145+ in the recently concluded National T20 Cup and in Pakistan Super League (PSL) earlier this year,” he added.
Wahab unveiled the names of batsmen who he felt difficult to ball at. He named former South African Ab de Villiers, India’s captain Virat Kohli and Pakistan’s top batsman Babar Azam. “It is hard to ball to a batsman who is technically very sound. De Villiers and Kohli are technically very good. I also find it difficult to bowl at Babar Azam because he knows how to play good quality shots,” Wahab added.
He further maintained that there are no issues for senior players to play under the junior captain and hailed the appointment of Shadab Khan as the vice-captain of white-ball teams. “The first priority is Pakistan and it is good to appoint Babar, Shadab as captain and vice-captain respectively. As a professional, it is our responsibility to follow the captain’s directions,” he maintained.
