BEIJING: Media reports claiming that China has annexed more than 150 hectares of Nepalese land are fake news without any factual basis, and are complete rumors, said Chinese FM spokesperson Wang Wenbin, slamming the groundless reports at a press conference on Tuesday.
Citing anonymous Nepalese politicians, a report from the Telegraph on Monday said that the Chinese military had crossed the China-Nepal border into the Limi Valley and Hilsa in the northwestern district of Humla, moving stone pillars which had previously demarcated the boundary further into Nepalese territory before allegedly constructing military bases. Similar “annexations” also occurred in the districts of Gorkha, Rasuwa, Sindhupalchowk and Sankuwasabha districts, said the report. In response, Wang slammed the reports as totally fake and pure rumors.
When asked by a Telegraph reporter for evidence, Wen said, “They are rumors, I am afraid it is the writer who should provide evidence.” “I suggest writers verify a source before reporting. I can tell you again that such reports are complete rumors,” Wang said, adding the reports do not have any actual factual basis. Some Nepalese media have been claiming that China has been constructing buildings inside Nepalese land recently. The reports have been denied both by the Chinese Embassy in Nepal and Nepalese authorities.
