LAHORE: Special Advisor on Information to CM Punjab, Dr. Firdos Ashiq Awan said that the Punjab government encourages regional newspapers and would not usurp their rights.
However, government strongly discourages ghost newspapers and will maintain a check and balance on them.
While talking to a delegation of All Pakistan Regional Newspapers Society (APRNS) headed by its present Ghulam Murtaza Jatt that met her yesterday she assured that government will take care of the interests of all regional newspapers, because they have the potential to play a vital role in disseminating reliable information to the masses.
“Regional newspapers will be encouraged by the government but ghost newspapers will not be allowed to usurp the rights of the regional newspapers. Advertisements will soon be restored for regional newspapers after getting a briefing from the concerned officers, “she said.
She then directed the Secretary Information Punjab, Raja Mohammad Jahangir and Director General Dr. Mohammad Aslam Dogar to address the concerns of regional newspapers and provide them maximum support.
At this occassion GM Jatt, President APRNS along with his delegation presented a bouquet to Dr Firdos Ashiq Awan to congratulate her on becoming Special Advisor to the CM Buzdar.
Hafiz Jahangir, Javed Iqbal and others members of the delegation were also present on this occassion. G M Jatt expressed his hope that Dr Firdos Ashiq Awan would resolve all problems of regional newspapers and the controversial points of the Punjab advertisement amendment policy would be modified soon to restore advertisements to regional newspapers. – PR
