HK reports 95 new cases

HONG KONG: Hong Kong’s Center for Health Protection (CHP) reported 95 additional confirmed cases of COVID-19 on Sunday, taking its total tally to 6,897.
The new confirmed cases included 87 local infections, with 36 cases of unknown origin, according to a CHP press briefing.
According to Hong Kong’s Hospital Authority, currently 1,087 COVID-19 patients are hospitalized, including 31 in critical condition. Yuen Kwok-yung, government adviser and professor of the University of Hong Kong, predicted the current epidemic wave will last for about a month and warned of another round of outbreak if anti-epidemic measures cannot be implemented genuinely. He urged residents to avoid gatherings during the upcoming Christmas holiday.
The Chinese mainland on Saturday registered 18 new COVID-19 cases, including one locally transmitted case in Tianjin and 17 from overseas, the National Health Commission announced on Sunday.
Two new asymptomatic COVID-19 cases were recorded, while 234 asymptomatic patients remain under medical observation. No COVID-19-related deaths were reported on Saturday, and 12 patients were discharged from hospitals. The total number of confirmed COVID-19 cases reached 86,619, with 4,634 fatalities as of Saturday. –PNP
