Magnetic bombs continue to take lives in war-torn Afghanistan

The victims, according to an official Abdul Shaeq Shurash, were going to the neighboring Kapisa province when the blast targeted their car outside Parwan’s provincial capital Charikar. Although no group has claimed responsibility, the official didn’t rule out the Taliban involvement in the bombing.
Earlier in the day, a similar blast wounded two civilians in PD 11 of Kabul city, causing panic among locals. An identical blast claimed the life of the deputy to Kabul governor and his assistant and injured two others in downtown Kabul on Tuesday. Also on Tuesday, a sticky bomb targeted the vehicle of Abdul Rahman Hasam, the deputy for provincial council of western Ghor province, killing Hasam and injuring two others.
An increase in the targeted attacks have caused panic among people as speaker Wolsi Jirga or Lower House of parliament Mir Rahman Rahmani expressed concerns over security situation in Kabul on Wednesday and called upon the security organs to reassess the security policies to improve situation.
Meanwhile, Kabul police spokesman Ferdaus Faramarz described the sticky bomb blasts and target killing as terrorist act and reportedly claimed that the police have arrested 140 people over the past one month in connection with terrorist attacks including landmine plantation in Kabul. About four dozen people were killed and almost the same number injured due to targeted attacks in November in Afghanistan.
Meanwhile, around a dozen people, mostly security personnel, were killed or injured as Taliban militants stormed a security base in Dand-e-Ghori district of Afghanistan’s northern Baghlan province on Wednesday, provincial police spokesman Jawed Basharat said.
According to the official, the militants stormed a security base in Wazirabad area of Dand-e-Ghori district outside provincial capital Pul-e-Khurmi in the wee hours of Wednesday, killing or injuring some 12 people. Without providing more details, the official said that “details would be shared” after completion of investigation.
A local said that the victims included policemen.
In the meantime, Ainudin Sayadi, head of provincial hospital in Pul-e-Khumri city, said that “13 dead bodies and five injured persons, mostly security personnel” have been taken to the hospital. Taliban militants who are in control of parts of Dand-e-Ghori and the neighboring Dand-e-Shahabudin area have yet to make comment.
While, Afghanistan’s defense and security forces have repulsed the Taliban attacks on Panjway district in the southern Kandahar province, forcing the insurgents to flee with 17 killed, said a Defense Ministry statement released Wednesday. Backed by military planes, the government forces, in addition to killing “17 terrorists and destroying their arms and ammunitions” have foiled the militants’ attempt to gain ground, the statement said.–Agencies
