PM directs strategy regarding plantation drive

ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Imran Khan has directed all the provinces to evolve a coordinated strategy and monitoring mechanism regarding plantation drive and protection of the green areas.
Chairing weekly meeting of National Coordination Committee for Housing, Construction, and Development in Islamabad on Thursday, he said environmental pollution is a silent killer, which adversely affects people s health. Emphasizing the importance of protection of environment, Imran Khan called for taking timely steps to avoid adverse effects of the menace in big cities.
He said the incumbent government has taken various steps on war footing for environmental protection. Stressing the importance of provision of data for land record digitalization, Imran Khan said it will help better planning and checking land grabbers.
Prime Minister urged for securing green areas in construction projects in Islamabad.
Prime Minister s Adviser on Climate Change Malik Amin Aslam apprised the meeting about the consultation process on piloting building codes with housing schemes and to control the urban flooding in big cities.
Billion Tree Honey Initiative: Weeks earlier, Mr Khan had formally launched the Billion Tree Honey Initiative to promote tree plantation and honey production in the country under the Ten Billion Tree Tsunami Programme (TBTTP).
Addressing the launching ceremony on December 21 last year, the PM said that TBTTP will help control environmental degradation, including enhancing forest cover, cleaning rivers and protecting groundwater from pollution, and checking air pollution. He said that it is the responsibility of his government to hand over a clean Pakistan to younger generations.
Olive Plantation to Be Made Part of 10 Billion Tree Tsunami Project: Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Governor Shah Farman on January 01 said that olive plantation would be made part of 10 billion tree tsunami project. The governor said this while addressing a meeting with Planning and Development Department on video link. During the meeting, plantation of olive trees under the 10 billion tree tsunami project was discussed. The meeting was told that the KP agriculture and forest departments were fully prepared for the project.
