JI’s Hafiz Salman dies

LAHORE: Former MNA and Jamaat-e-Islami leader Hafiz Salman Butt passed away on Thursday after a brief illness. He was 65.
He was under treatment at a private hospital in Lahore for several days. According to his family, Salman Butt was suffering from kidney disease.
Hafiz Salman Butt remained MNA for three times. He was also the president of Pakistan Railways Prem Union CBA.
Born on January 17, 1956 in Lahore, Hafiz Salman Butt obtained his BSc degree from the Punjab University in 1982. He was elected to the National Assembly in 1985, 1990 and

2002 elections. He was Affiliated with the Jamaat-e-Islami, he joined the Muttahida Majlis-e-Amal after being elected as an independent MNA in 2002 elections.
He had been active in the student politics and was elected as the vice president of the Punjab University Students Union.
He also served as the president of the Prem Union and the vice president of the National Labour Federation. He was member of the Pakistan Football Federation since 1983, Pakistan Swimming Federation since 1986 and Lahore District Hockey Association since 1990.
