Islamabad: The aerial rescue operation to locate three missing climbers, including Pakistan’s Muhammad Ali Sadpara, continued for the second day on Sunday. However, no trace has been found yet of Sadpara, John Snorri from Iceland and MP Mohr from Chile, who went missing during their winter ascent on K2.
Two army helicopters flew to their maximum limit of 7,800 metres for a second time and conducted an aerial search for an hour to locate the missing climbers.
Renowned Nepali Chhang Dawa Sherpa, Ali’s son Sajid Sadpara, experts including four climbers Fazal Ali, Jalal, Imtiaz Hussain and Akbar Ali are part of the rescue mission too.
After the search operation, Sajid Sadpara was airlifted to Skardu where commissioner Baltistan Shuja Alam and deputy commissioner Skardu Karim Dad Chughtai received him. Note, Sajid Sadpara is also part of the winter expenditure team. He arrived at K2 base camp on Saturday evening after waiting for the three climbers at camp 3 for over 20 hours. He had returned to camp 3 after facing issues with his oxygen regulator.
