Soldier martyred in SWA blast

RAWALPINDI: A soldier of the Pakistan Army, Lance Naik Waqas Ahmed, was martyred on Wednesday in a landmine blast near a check post in Kani Gram area of South Waziristan Agency (SWA).
According to Inter Services Public Relations (ISPR), security forces have cordoned off the area and launched a search operation.
A statement issued by the ISPR said that the Pakistan Army was committed to eradicating terrorism from the country and the sacrifices of its brave soldiers only strengthen this resolve.
Earlier on February 20th, five soldiers were martyred and another was injured when terrorists attacked a security check-post in the Sara Rogha area of South Waziristan tribal district.
Police said that the martyred soldiers belonged to 223 Wing of Frontier Corps, a paramilitary force which has been fighting militants in the tribal districts.
Officials said that terrorists used light and heavy weapons in the attack.
The martyred soldiers were identified as Naib Subaidar Shahid Anwar, Naik Ahmad Khan, Lance Naik Shehryar and Sepoys Ayub and Shahzad and the injured as Shahid Afzal.–ISPR
