2 passerbys hurt as car snatchers open fire on cops

ISLAMABAD: A woman among two passersbys received bullet injures during a police encounter with alleged car snatchers at Rawalpindi.
According to details, the suspects snatched a vehicle at gunpoint from Sixth Road, Rawalpindi. On being informed, the vehicle was signalled to stop by the police at a checkpoint but the suspects opened fire on the police party and managed to escape from the scene as a resut of which two passersbys including a woman, were injured by the firing allegedly carried out by car snatchers. Rescue officials shifted the injured to the hospital for medical treatment. Cops are trying to identify the victims.
However, Rawalpindi Police chased the suspects and the crooks again opened fire at them at Islamabad, leaving behind Corolla LEA-7050 outside the Islamabad Excise and Taxation office. They snatched another vehicle Honda LEA-2657 and later vanished in the jungle area; Margalla Hills forest area to be precise, from E-7, leaving behind the latter as well.
DIG Operations later said that the police have launched a search operation in the jungle to arrest the suspects. Headed by ASP New Town, Rawalpindi Police is making all out efforts to hunt down the criminals. Islamabad Police teams are also going to help them in the operation. Earlier, the gang tried to lift a car at Cantt area, Rawalpindi, Saturday morning which was cops averted. The same later tried snatching a vehicle at Sixth Road and escaped under fire. Efforts are on to capture the crooks.
Earlier on June 4, two police officials had been martyred by unidentified armed men at IJ Principal Road in Islamabad. Unidentified assailants opened fire on Eagle Squad officials, leaving two cops martyred on the crime scene. The incident had taken place in front of NUTECH university while the attackers managed to flee from the scene.
