Lt. Gen. Ghafoor given Quetta Corps Command

RAWALPINDI: Following the martyrdom of Lt Gen Sarfraz Ali in a chopper crash along with five other officers of the Pakistan Army, Lieutenant General Asif Ghafoor has been posted as the Commander 12 Corps Quetta on Wednesday. His posting came two days after Lt Gen Sarfraz Ali was martyred after military chopper had gone missing as it was en route from Quetta to Karachi at around 5:30pm. The personnel in the chopper were overseeing the flood relief efforts in the southwest of the country.
The wreckage of the helicopter was found in Musa Goth, Windar, Lasbela. The accident occurred due to “bad weather” as per the initial investigation, the ISPR said.
In 2020, former DG ISPR Major General Asif Ghafoor was among six Major Generals of the Pakistan Army who were promoted to the rank of Lieutenant General.
Those promoted include former DG ISPR Major General Asif Ghafoor, Major General Akhtar Nawaz, Major General Sardar Hassan Azhar Hayat, Major General Salman Fayyaz Ghani, Major General Sarfraz Ali and Major General Muhammad Ali, the DG ISPR stated in a tweet.
Lt Gen Asif Ghafoor was posted as the new Inspector General Communication & Information Technology. Lt Gen Syed Muhammad Adnan was posted as Inspector General Training & Evaluation and Lt Gen Sardar Hassan Azhar Hayat was posted as the new Military Secretary.
