RAWALPINDI: The Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) announced Tuesday that 12 major generals of the Pakistan Army had been promoted to the rank of lieutenant general.
In a statement, the military’s media wing mentioned that Director-General ISPR Major General Babar Iftikhar was also among the military officials who were promoted.
Apart from Maj Gen Iftikhar, Maj Gen Inam Haider Malik, Major General Fayyaz Hussain Shah, Major General Nauman Zakria, and Major General Muhammad Zafar Iqbal, have also been promoted.
Maj Gen Ayman Bilal Safdar, Maj Gen Ahsan Gulrez, Maj Gen Syed Aamer Raza, Maj Gen Shahid Imtiaz, Maj Gen Muhammad Munir Afsar, Maj Gen Yousaf Jamal, Maj Gen Kashif Nazir have also been promoted.
Maj Gen Babar Iftikhar, who is among those promoted, is presently serving as the ISPR director general. He was appointed to the post in January 2020.
In August, Lieutenant General Faiz Hameed was appointed the Bahawalpur corps commander after he was replaced by Lt Gen Sardar Hassan Azhar Hayat as the new Peshawar corps commander.
Earlier, Lt Gen Asif Ghafoor was appointed as the Commander XII Corps (Quetta), replacing Lt Gen Sarfraz Ali, who was martyred in a helicopter crash. Lt Gen Ghafoor had previously served as the ISPR head.
Meanwhile, Secretary General of the Muslim World League & President of the Organization of Muslim Scholars, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia (KSA) Sheikh Doctor Mohammad bin Abdulkarim AI-Issa called on COAS here at GHQ on Tuesday. During the meeting, ISPR said, matters of mutual interest, bilateral security cooperation and regional peace and stability came under discussion.
The Secretary General said Pakistan had a significant place in the Muslim world and it was playing a vital role for peace and stability in the region, ISPR added.
The COAS said the relations between Pakistan and Saudi Arabia were based on bonds of brotherhood and mutual trust. “Both nations will continue to play a part for peace and stability & betterment of Ummah”, he said.
British High Commissioner, Dr Christian Turner on Tuesday expressed his grief over the devastation caused by floods in Pakistan and offered sincere condolence to the families of the victims.
According ISPR, the British High Commissioner called on COAS here at GHQ.
During the meeting, matters of mutual interest and regional security situation including bilateral cooperation in various fields were discussed.
Talking to the British High Commission, the COAS said Pakistan valued the UK’s balanced role in regional affairs and looked forward to enhance mutually beneficial relationship based on common interests.
The dignitary appreciated Pakistan’s efforts for regional stability and also pledged to play his role enhancing cooperation with Pakistan at all levels. –ISPR
