LOS ANGELES: Streaming giant Netflix has opened a Los Angeles store that it hopes will combine retail therapy with an “immersive” experience for fans of its popular “Stranger Things,” “Bridgerton,” and “Squid Game” shows.
The store – open until early January – offers shoppers the chance to take photos alongside the iconic Young-hee animatronic doll with laser eyes from “Squid Game” and Queen Charlotte’s throne from period drama “Bridgerton.”
Costumes and props from the shows are also on display, including a guitar used by one of the main characters in “Stranger Things.”
Streaming giant Netflix might tackle the issue of password sharing by asking for fingerprints or face recognition from the users, as predicted by an analyst on Sunday.
Netflix has announced plans to cut down password sharing as it has been affecting the revenues earned by the platform. Considering that, the leading research and advisory company CCS Insight predicts that the video streaming platform might possibly ask the users to validate their presence by asking for biometric proof.
The chief analyst at CCS Insight Ben Wood said that Netflix is going through a lot of pressure regarding the account sharing issue.
The platform had recently introduced a new system that would let the subscribers add an extra member to their account for an additional fee. The fee is not specified yet but is expected to be a quarter of the original charges.
The platform has struggled to retain its subscriber base due to the tough competition from streaming platforms like Disney+, Apple TV, HBO Max, and Amazon Prime.
Netflix lost around one million subscribers in the first half of the year. Since then, it has worked on different plans, such as an ad-based model with Microsoft, to maximise revenue.
