Qin Gang is new FM of China

BEIJING: Qin Gang, incumbent Chinese Ambassador to the US, was appointed as the new Chinese foreign minister, according to a decision made by the 13th National People’s Congress (NPC) Standing Committee on Friday.
Wang Yi, who is a Member of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee and State Councilor, no longer serves as the Chinese foreign minister, China’s Central Television reported on Friday.
Born in Tianjin in March 1966, Qin started to work as a staff member in the Service Bureau for Diplomatic Missions from 1988 to 1992, and from 1992 to 1995, he worked in the Department of West European Affairs of the Foreign Ministry. From 1995-1999, 2002 to 2005 and from 2010 to 2011,Qin worked at the Chinese Embassy in the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland. He also had years of experience working as foreign ministry spokesperson.
Qin served as Assistant Minister of Foreign Affairs and Director-General of the Protocol Department from 2017 to 2018 and Vice Minister of Foreign Affairs from 2018 to 2021.
Qin arrived in the US as Chinese Ambassador in July, 2021. On Friday, the Chinese foreign ministry released on its website a message from Qin, in which the newly appointed foreign minister said that under the strong leadership of the Communist Party of China, China’s diplomacy upholds the purposes of supporting national rejuvenation, promoting progress of mankind and holding the banner of peace, development, cooperation and win-win.
“We will maintain the diplomatic principles of defending global peace and promoting common development and will work to build the community for a shared future for mankind and new international relations based on mutual respect, justice and win-win cooperation,” said Qin in the message.
