All eyes on the upcoming meeting of minds in Boao

BEIJING: The China Development Forum [in Beijing] and the Boao Forum for Asia (BFA) Annual Conference [in Hainan Province] will soon get underway, as will the Summer Davos, or the World Economic Forum’s global meeting on innovation, science and technology, in Tianjin. I have learned many foreign business leaders have applied to participate,” Chinese Foreign Minister Qin Gang said at a press conference on the sidelines of the First Session of the 14th National People’s Congress, China’s top legislature, on March 7, where he answered questions about the country’s foreign policy and external relations.
The BFA, sometimes referred to as the “Asian Davos,” takes its name from the town of Boao, once just a small fishing village in China’s southern island province of Hainan, which has been the permanent venue for its annual conference since 2002.
Committed to promoting regional economic integration, this year’s edition will once again offer the world an Asian vision for shared prosperity.
The forum’s previous two editions took place both online and offline due to the COVID-19 pandemic; the 2020 annual conference was canceled altogether.
After three long years, the BFA Annual Conference 2023 is gearing up to take place entirely offline once again—with the necessary pandemic prevention measures in place. Themed An Uncertain World: Solidarity and Cooperation for Development Amid Challenges, it will run from March 28 to 31.
State leaders, government officials, heads of international organizations as well as experts and entrepreneurs from all over the world are ready to physically come together to discuss the development agenda not just for Asia, but for the world at large.
