Strong Army must for country’s security, unity, says Gen. Munir

RAWALPINDI: Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Syed Asim Munir, while addressing an award distribution ceremony aimed to recognise unwavering bravery and outstanding services of martyrs and ghazis to the nation, has underlined that a strong army guarantees the security and unity of the country.

In a solemn ceremony held at the General Headquarters in Rawalpindi on Monday, the army chief awarded military honours to the brave officers and men of the Pakistan Army, militray’s media wing, the ISPR, said in a statement.
The event, attended by a large number of senior officers of the Pakistan Army and the families of martyrs, commemo-rated the sacrifices made by these individuals in ensuring the country’s security and freedom.

The army chief, General Asim, expressed deep gratitude and appreciation for the martyrs and veterans, emphasising their vital role in maintaining a free and safe atmosphere in the country.

“Undoubtedly, we are living in a free atmosphere due to the martyrs’ sense of duty and great sacrifices,” he stated. He further added, “Sacrifices of martyrs and services of Ghazis are our valuable asset and capital of pride.” During the ceremony, 51 officers were bestowed with the prestigious Sitara-e-Imtiaz (military) award in recognition of their exceptional contribu-tions.

Additionally, 22 officers and jawans received the Tamgha-e-Basalat decoration for their exemplary dedication, while 2 jawans were honoured with the United Nations Special Medal.

The army chief highlighted the unity and camaraderie within the Pakistan Army, describing it as a proud and exemplary family. “Pakistan Army as an institution always remembers every person associated with it and their families, and our relationship as a family is a proud and exemplary one,” Gen-eral Asim stated.

He further emphasised the spirit of inclusivity and impartiality within the armed forces, stating, “Every soldier and of-ficer of the Pakistan Army puts his duties and responsibilities first, regardless of regional, linguistic, and political preju-dices and distinctions.”
“A strong army guarantees the security and unity of the country,” he underlined.

Addressing a recent spate of attacks on military installations, memorials, and sanctuaries of martyrs, General Asim ex-pressed deep sadness and de-nounced them as intolerable. He pledged to take firm action against those responsible for such acts, emphasising the army’s unwavering commitment to safeguarding national security.

As a gesture of remembrance and respect, the COAS announced the celebration of “Pakistan Martyrs Day” on May 25. This day will serve as a tribute to the brave soldiers who sacrificed their lives in defence of the nation.

The award distribution ceremon concluded with a note of gratitude to the martyrs and veterans, recognising their im-mense contributions and reaf-firming the Pakistan Army’s commitment to upholding the country’s security and unity. –ISPR
