BEIJING: China’s State Flood Control and Drought Relief Headquarters launched a level-four emergency response to flooding at 5 p.m. Saturday for provinces including Zhejiang, Anhui, Hubei and Guizhou.
The headquarters has instructed local authorities to conduct close monitoring, dynamic forecasts and alerts, and respond to emergencies in time.
All-out efforts should be made to ward off flooding, landslides and other disasters, relocate those at risk, and protect those involved in rescue work.
The rain belt will be mainly situated near the middle and lower reaches of the Yangtze River, with rainstorms and severe convective weather expected in some regions.

Meanwhile, China’s National Meteorological Center on Sunday renewed a yellow alert for rainstorms in some parts of the country.
From 2 pm Sunday to 2 pm Monday, rainstorms are likely in parts of Hubei, Henan, Anhui, Jiangsu, Shanghai, Zhejiang, Jiangxi, Hunan, Chongqing, Guizhou, Sichuan, Yunnan, Shanxi, and Hebei. Heavy downpours up to 200 mm may lash parts of these regions, said the center.
Some of these regions will also experience short-term heavy rainfall with up to over 70 mm of hourly precipitation, accompanied by thunderstorms and gales. –The Daily Mail-China Daily news exchange item
