FAPUASA discusses faculty issues with HEC Chairman

ISLAMABAD: Meeting of Federation of All Pakistan Universities Academic Staff Association (FAPUASA) Islamabad council along with President Prof. Dr. Kaleem Ullah Bareach with Chairman HEC Dr. Mukhtar Ahmed was held on 20th July 2023 at Higher Education Commission Islamabad on a one point agenda to increase TTS salaries.
Academic Staff Association (ASA) leadership of COMSATS University Islamabad (CUI), Quaid-E-Azam University (QAU) and International Islamic University Islamabad (IIUI) was part of the meeting.
Chairman briefed the members regarding the current financial crisis in the country, however, suggested that better governance in universities can improve the financial matters. FAPUASA briefed the Chairman that BPS salary increases on an annual basis with the budget whereas only three revisions have been granted in TTS salary in 2011, 2015 and 2021 at the rate of 30%, 25% and 35% respectively.
FAPUASA showed disagreement with the letter issued by Executive Director HEC on 17th July as figures were presented in the letters were incorrect. Chairman agreed with the concerns of FAPUASA and requested for submission of a written proposal regarding formula for increase of TTS salaries for further consideration.
Chairman briefed the FAPUASA Islamabad council regarding his today’s meeting with Muhammad Ishaq Dar, Minister of Finance and Ahsan Iqbal, Minister of Planning, Development and Special Initiatives regarding a bail out package for HEC.
Furthermore, HEC agreed for retention of faculty members in public sector universities. Chairman showed concern that faculty is leaving universities due to low salary packages. Chairman said categorically that HEC is the well wisher of universities.
