ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) along with the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) conducted a successful raid against the grey trafficker at NESPAK Housing Society, Lahore.
During the raid, 188 Active SIMs, nine VoIP Gateways (32 ports), 05 Laptops and 2 Network Switches were recovered.
Two persons have been arrested at the spot. FIA is further investigating the matter. The successful raid against the illegal setup is a part of PTA’s efforts to prevent the circumvention of the Multi-Finger Biometric Verification System (MBVS) and is made possible because of continuous monitoring, commitment and persistent efforts by PTA in curbing the menace of grey traffic thus curtailing the loss to the national exchequer.
Earlier, The Sindh High Court has ordered the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) and others to maintain the stay order for not stopping the uninterrupted Internet service.
Hearing a petition against the unauthorized shutdown of Internet service in the country, the court asked for a report from the PTA, the federal government, and others on February 6.
“Our internet also shuts down,” Chief Justice Aqeel Abbasi remarked, adding that it was said there was a fault in the internet cables in the sea.
The PTA and the federal government sought time to submit a written reply. The court sought a report from the PTA, the federal government and others on February 6.
Advocate Jibran Nasir said that in May last year, internet service was down for three consecutive days.
The CJ remarked that the authorities will say they shut down the internet of their will or that it was a technical fault.
“The websites of political parties and candidates have been shut down,” the lawyer argued, adding that the websites of a certain political party have been shut down for the past seven days.
The PTA counsel said that elections were about to be held, and due to heavy traffic on the Internet, the service slows down. “PTI is the most popular political party in the country and followers from all over the world search for it. That is why there are problems,” the lawyer claimed.
