PTI calls for Judicial inquiry to investigate May 9 events

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Barrister Gohar Ali Khan on Tuesday reiterated his party’s demand to constitute a judicial commission to probe May 9 events. Addressing the media following a meeting with the former prime minister and PTI founder Imran Khan at Rawalpindi’s Adiala Jail, Gohar said that Imran was satisfied with the Supreme Court’s order on re-served seats, saying that justice will prevail.
Barrister Gohar revealed that the PTI founder also discussed the statement of the former Caretaker Prime Minister Anwaarul Haq Kakar regarding the Form 47 issue, urging the judiciary to hear the Elec-tion Commission of Pakistan’s (ECP) petitions and constitute benches to resolve the matters.
He said that Imran Khan was also informed about the meeting with US Ambassador Donald Blome’s meeting with PTI leadership, saying that the former premier expressed satisfaction over the develop-ment. He said that the party would stage peaceful protest on May 9, urging all ticket holders to partici-pate.
Gohar raised concerns about the whereabouts of the CCTV footage from the May 9 event, urging the formation of a judicial commission to investigate the matter. He emphasised that Imran Khan had no intention of damaging relations with the United States.
In response to a query, he stated that he would address the comments made by DG ISPR in his press briefing after carefully considering them.
Earlier in the day, Maj-Gen Ahmed Sharif, the Director-General of Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), stated that “nothing was hidden about May 9” and dismissed the narrative that the events were orchestrated and a false flag operation.
“We firmly assert that to uphold trust in Pakistan’s justice system, those responsible for the events of May 9, including both perpetrators and orchestrators, must face legal consequences in accordance with the Constitution and the law,” he affirmed.
Asserting the transparency of the situation, the military spokesperson highlighted that the unfolding of events on May 9 was visible to all.
Maj-Gen Sharif further emphasised how falsehoods and propaganda had turned public sentiment against the army, its leadership, and various institutions, attributing this to directives allegedly issued by certain political figures targeting military installations on that fateful day.
The debunked the subsequent dissemination of a fabricated narrative portraying the events of May 9 as a ‘false flag operation’.
To a question during his interaction with the media, the PTI chairman said that the matter of the inter-ference of the United States was raised at state level, clarifying that such discussions don’t inherently advocate for severing ties with a nation as significant as the United States.
He stated that he, along with Omar Ayub and Asad Qaiser, attended the meeting with Blome, empha-sising that the discussion had no connection to the cypher issue.
Salman Akram Raja, counsel for PTI, highlighted that the US envoy initially engaged with the foreign ministry prior to the meeting with PTI leadership. –Agencies
