GWADAR: An “opening day” was held in Gwadar to inform students and teachers about various functionalities of Gwadar Port and its impacts on socio-economic development of Gwadar.
Teachers and students from Pak-China Government Girls’ High School, Faqeer Colony visited the South China Commodity Exhibition and Trading Centre, which was recently constructed for holding conventions and conferences.
The management of China Overseas Ports Holding Company, the port operators, welcomed the students and briefed them on the large-scale events that will potentially be held at the centre in the future.
The group visited the Scientific Research Laboratory, commonly known as the tissue culture laboratory, and the greenhouse.
The students observed cultivation of various commercial plants, and learned how the laboratory can create entrepreneurship and employment opportunities for the local community while also improving the local ecological environment. So far, COPHC has planted over 150,000 plants in the Port and Free Zone, improving the ecological environment of Gwadar.
Afterwards, they visited the 1.2 million gallons per day desalination plant, which was built by China. The students were fascinated by the production process and scientific principles behind desalination. The tour concluded with visit to China Business Centre, where a model was used to explain the proposed and planned development projects for the Port and Free Zone.
It is pertinent to mention that Faqeer Colony School was constructed and continues to operate with funds from China. Over the years it has provided academic skills to Gwadar’s female students. –Agencies
