KINGSTOWN: Bangladesh grabbed victory over Netherlands by restricting the batters to 134/8 in the 27th match of the T20 World Cup being played at Arnos Vale Ground, Kingstown.
Chasing the target, the Netherlands didn’t have the best start as they lost both of their openers Mi-chael Levitt (18 off 16) and Max O’Dowd (12 off 16) walked back to the pavilion leaving their side 32-2 in 5.4 overs.
However, after losing two wickets, the Dutch got back in the game with Vikramjit Singh and Sybrand Engelbrecht combining for 37-run before the former departed after scoring 26 runs on 16 balls.
After losing the wicket, Engelbrecht (33 off 22) and skipper Scott Edwards (25 off 23) scored but their knocks were not enough as the Dutch kept on losing wickets and eventually concluded their innings at 134-8 in 20 overs.
For Bangladesh, Rishad Hossain starred with the ball as he took three wickets, Taskin Ahmed got two while Mustafizur Rahman, Tanzim Hasan Sakib, and Mahmudullah picked one wickets each.
Earlier in the first innings, after being asked to bat first, Bangladesh didn’t have a great start as they lost two wickets inside the first four overs with skipper Najmul Hossain Shanto and Liton Das walking back to the pavilion without scoring in double digits.
However, Tanzid Hasan and Shakib Al Hasan built a 48-run partnership which was crucial for Bangladesh as they got the much-needed stability. Tanzid played a quick knock, scoring 35 off 26 with six bounda-ries before losing his wicket to Paul van Meekeren.
Shakib stayed on the pitch and he was supported greatly by Mahmudullah (25 off 21) down the order. Jaker Ali’s quick seven-ball 14-run cameo helped Bangladesh conclude their innings at 159-5 in the allo-cated overs.
Shakib top-scored for the Tigers with 64 runs on 46 balls. Meanwhile, for the Netherlands, Aryan Dutt and Van Meekeren bagged two wickets each while Tim Pringle managed to get one.
The Netherlands defeated Nepal in their previous T20 World Cup match while Bangladesh overcame Sri Lanka. Both teams have two points each and a win today would strengthen their chances of making it to the tournament’s Super 8.

The West Indies Thursday secured an important win in the T20 World Cup 2024, defeating New Zea-land by 13 runs in their second outing in the ongoing mega event.
During the match, the Black Caps fell short of the West Indies’ 149-run target and could only score 136 at the loss of nine wickets in 20 overs.
For the co-hosts, Alzarri Joseph Gudakesh Motie and bagged four and three wickets, respectively, to secure their team’s second win in the tournament. Earlier in the match, Sherfane Rutherford rescued the West Indies as his unbeaten 68 off 39 balls (two fours, six sixes) lifted the home side from the depths of 30 for five in the seventh over to a competi-tive 149 for nine after they were put in by Black Caps skipper Kane Williamson.
The Black Caps never developed any momentum in the chase and continued to lose wickets at regular intervals during their innings.
Only Glenn Phillips (40 off 33 balls) caused any real worries for the West Indies but when he fell to Jo-seph in the 18th over the match was effectively over as a contest, despite Mitchell Santner belting three sixes off Romario Shepherd in the final over.
The defeat leaves New Zealand needing a miracle to progress beyond the group stage. They now need to win their remaining two matches by a good margin and hope other results go their way in or-der to stay alive in the race for Super 8.
The Kiwis will be eliminated if Afghanistan defeat Papua New Guinea.
