WASHINGTON: The United States on Wednesday acknowledged Pakistan’s continued efforts against terrorism while condemning martyrdom of security personnel in recent terror attacks in Pakistan.
Speaking at a press conference in the White House, US State Dept Spokesperson Matthew Miller urged the Afghan Taliban not to use Afghan soil for launching terror attacks in Pakistan, adding that the US would continue to work with Pakistan for ensuring regional security.
He further said that people of Pakistan had sacrificed a lot in the war against terror, stressing that eradication of terrorism was in the shared interest of both countries. He said the US and Pakistan were working together on multiple fronts, adding that the US would continue to support Pakistan in its economic endeavours,
It must be noted that the International Monetary Fund (IMF) has recently published its World Economic Outlook Report which warns of persistent food inflation globally. The global lender has estimated Pakistan’s FY25 growth rate at 3.5% amid modest global growth.
Earlier, The United States has reiterated its commitment to supporting Pakistan in its ongoing struggle against terrorism and efforts to improve its economy. In recent press briefings, spokespersons from both the US State Department and the Department of Defense emphasized the strong bilateral relationship and common interests shared by the two nations.
Matthew Miller, a spokesperson for the US State Department, acknowledged the significant suffering that the people of Pakistan have endured due to “violent extremists and terrorists”. He highlighted that combating threats to regional security is a shared objective of the United States with the people and government of Pakistan. In his remarks during his recent press briefing, Miller urged the Taliban to ensure that their territory is not used as a base for terrorist activities.
He also reiterated the importance of bilateral cooperation, stating that the US is actively working with Pakistan on multiple fronts, including efforts to bolster the Pakistani economy. “Pakistan continues to be a close partner that we work with on a number of important matters, including improving the Pakistan economy,” he added.
During a separate press briefing, Major General Pat Ryder, a spokesperson for the US Department of Defense, extended condolences to the families of Pakistani security personnel who were killed in recent attacks.
“Our prayers are with the families of Pakistani security personnel killed in the attack,” he said, adding, “Pakistan is in a tough fight at times when it comes to fighting terrorists in the region.”
Ryder emphasized the long-standing partnership between the US and Pakistan in counter-terrorism efforts. “America and Pakistan have worked together in the past for counter-terrorism,” he noted, adding that discussions are ongoing about how the two nations can continue to collaborate effectively.
“We maintain security cooperation relations with Pakistan,” Ryder affirmed when asked about Islamabad seeking US support. “I’m sure that those discussions are happening via those mechanisms to look at Pakistan’s requirements and — and what the US can do to support.”
