Opposition alliance discuss joint strategy against Shehbaz-led govt

ISLAMABAD: A meeting of the opposition parties was held on Tuesday and pledged to give a tough time to the government.
Pashtunkhwa Milli Awami Party Chairman Mahmood Khan Achakzai, Jamiat Ulema-i-Islam chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman, Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf chief Barrister Gohar and Opposition Leader in the National Assembly Omar Ayub Khan attended the meeting.
Members of the Balochistan National Party-Mengal and the Jamaat-e-Islami also took part in the meeting.
According to sources, terms of reference for joint strategy of the opposition were discussed.
Sources said the participants unanimously agreed that the government was unable to control inflation, lawlessness and economy.
PTI leader Asad Qaiser told reporters that Maulana Fazl was also ready to join forces with the opposition to give a tough time to the government.
Earlier, PTI founding chairman Imran Khan and JUI chief Maulana Fazlur Rahman, once political rivals are now coming together for a joint effort against the incumbent PML-N led government.
A committee has been formed to address common issues and have begun to mend their past differences.
Imran assured Maulana to address his concerns, and this message has been conveyed to the JUI chief.
The former premier has proposed the formation of a three-member committee, chaired by senior PTI leader Asad Qaiser, to resolve the issues between the two parties.
This committee will determine the agreed strategy for their collaboration.
It’s reported that before finalizing any plans, both parties will agree on other points, including any possible protest movement.
Once settled, Imran and Maulana will sign off on the agreement, signaling their united front against the government.
On April 2, in a bid to give tough time to the government, the PTI formed a “grand opposition alliance”, which reportedly, will be led by Pashtoonkhwa Milli Awami Party (PkMAP) chief Mahmood Khan Achakzai.
A meeting of five opposition parties was held in this regard.
PTI Chairman Gohar Khan, Jamaat-e-Islami acting amir Liaquat Baloch, Balochistan National Party-Mengal (BNP-M) President Akhtar Mengal, Opposition Leader in the National Assembly Omar Ayub, Majlis Wahdat-e-Muslimeen (MWM) chief Allama Nasir Abbas, PTI leader Asad Qaiser and Achakzai attended the huddle.
Fazl had already issued a call for opposition against the government.
It was reported that after the JUI-F joins the grand opposition alliance, the PTI along with the party would announce protest demonstrations under the leadership of Achakzai, and will move forward in unison.
JI was also likely to secure a major position in the alliance.
