BEIJING: “A large number of users” experienced software crashing when using Google’s search engine app on Android from late Saturday to early Sunday, according to the U.S. tech giant.
Over 7,000 problem reports have been received by downdetector.com.
Many Google users posted screenshots on social media showing an error message “Google keeps stopping” on their phones.
Google Search is becoming stable, but the team is “still working on a fix,” as shown on the status dashboard page of the product.
The page also showed that the service issue began at around 11 p.m. Pacific Time (0600 GMT).
The Google Search team advise users who are still experiencing the problem to clear the cache and data for the Google app on their phones.
Other Google services and Google Search on other platforms are seemingly not affected by the problem.
If you need to use Google Search on your Android phone right now, try opening a browser like Chrome and Firefox, and type “google.com” to open the web version which, as of 4 p.m. Beijing Time (0800 GMT) on Sunday, was still working on all mainstream platforms.
You can also try other major search engines like Bing, Yahoo, Baidu, Yandex and DuckDuckGo. –The Daily Mail-CGTN news exchange item
