Moscow Forum asks Afghan govt to take action against terror groups

MOSCOW: The Moscow Format Consultations issued warning to Afghan authorities amidst growing threats of terrorism. The forum called on the interim Afghan government to take action against terrorist groups to stop them from using its soil against neighbouring countries.
Analysts believe that Afghan government should take the advice of the forum seriously to capitalise on this diplomatic opportunity.
It merits mention that regional players like Russia, Iran, China and CARs have already raised concerns over growing terrorism thereats emerging from Afghanistan.
Analysts advise that the Afghan Taliban should ensure the resolution of their issues. The Afghan Taliban should pay heed to women’s education. Afghanistan should promote peace and security for regional security and stability by playing its role in global peace.
Earlier, The Quadrilateral Group comprising Pakistan, China, Iran and Russia has called on Afghanistan’s Taliban government to take “visible and verifiable actions” to dismantle terrorist groups operating from Afghan soil.
A joint statement issued by the group after a ministerial-level meeting held on the sidelines of theUnited Nations General Assembly (UNGA) identified several terrorist organisations operating in Afghanistan, including Daesh, Al-Qaida, the Eastern Turkestan Islamic Movement (ETIM), Jaish ul-Adl, the Balochistan Liberation Army (BLA), and the TTP.
It mentioned that these outfits “pose a serious threat to regional and global security”. The Taliban leadership was urged to “dismantle and eliminate all terrorist groups equally and non-discriminatory” and to prevent Afghan territory from being used to launch attacks against neighbouring countries and beyond. –Agencies
