Traffic plan devised for SCO Summit

ISLAMABAD: Islamabad Traffic Police has issued a special traffic plan for the “Shanghai Cooperation Organization” (SCO) summit in Islamabad, a public relations officer said.
According to the plan, over 585 officers of the Islamabad Traffic Police will perform their duties in a professional manner. For the convenience of citizens, alternative routes have been arranged.
During the summit, traffic from Millat Road to Kashmir Chowk and Dhokri Serena Hotel will be closed. Traffic from Rawal Dam Chowk to Kashmir Chowk and Serena Malpur will also be closed. Similarly, traffic from Aabpara and Srinagar Highway to Serena will be blocked.
Citizens traveling from Murree, Bhara Kahu to Rawalpindi can use the following alternate routes, Korang Road, left at Bani Gala, Park Road, Rawal Dam Chowk, and Faizabad.
For those traveling from Faizabad to Bhara Kahu and Murree, can use Park Road, Bani Gala, Korang road as an alternative routes. For people traveling from Srinagar Highway to Murree and Bhara Kahu, they should use Chand Tara Chowk, Pak China Centre, Sports Complex via Murree Road, Park Road, Bani Gala and Korang Road.
Heavy traffic traveling from Peshawar to Lahore will use the Taxila motorway and Tarnol Railway crossing to reach the Fateh Jang motorway. Similarly, heavy traffic traveling from Lahore via GT Road to Islamabad and Rawalpindi will use Chak Beli Road to reach Chakri motorway.
Traffic from sectors F-5, G-5, G-6 and Margalla Road heading towards Rawalpindi will be diverted via the 9th Avenue. Traffic from Faisal Avenue heading towards Zero Point will also be redirected to the 9th Avenue.
Citizens traveling from Bhara Kahu to Rawalpindi should use Korang Road, Bani Gala, and Lehtrar Road. Traffic from Rawalpindi to Islamabad will use the 9th Avenue via Saddar and Murree Road.
Similarly, traffic between Zero Point, Faisal Avenue, and Koral Chowk using the Expressway will be closed, and citizens can use the service road as an alternative. Citizen traveling from Colonel Sher Khan Road to Faizabad should use 9th Avenue from the Stadium Road signal.
From October 14 to 16, 2024, all types of heavy traffic will be restricted from entering Islamabad. Chief Traffic Officer Islamabad, Muhammad Sarfraz Virk, said that wherever roads are closed, traffic police officials will be present to guide citizens and provide alternative routes.
He requested the citizens to cooperate with the traffic police and use alternative routes during the summit. Furthermore, FM Radio 92.4 and other social media channels will keep citizens informed of the situation throughout the event, he added.
