China, Brazil elevate ties, synergize dev’t strategies

BEIJING: China and Brazil on Wednesday elevated their ties to a China-Brazil community with a shared future for a more just world and a more sustainable planet as Chinese President Xi Jinping and Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva met at the president’s official residence in Brasilia.

During their meeting, Xi said the China-proposed Belt and Road Initiative will be synergized with Brazil’s development strategies.

Xi expressed his delight in visiting Brazil in a year of special historic significance, one that marks the 50th anniversary of diplomatic relations between China and Brazil. This is Xi’s fifth visit to Brazil, the South American country he has visited the most. He thanked his long-time friend Lula and the Brazilian government for their hospitality.

Under Lula’s leadership, Brazil has made solid progress in social and economic development and has once again become one of the world’s 10 largest economies, Xi said. He also extended congratulations on the success of the 19th G20 Summit in Rio de Janeiro and the launch of the Global Alliance Against Hunger and Poverty.

Noting China and Brazil are two major developing countries in their respective hemispheres, Xi said that in the past 50 years, both countries have enjoyed a relationship that transcends mountains and seas, and found a right way for major developing countries to get along with each other, one that is based on mutual respect, mutual benefit and amity.

Brazil was the first country to establish a strategic partnership with China and the first nation in Latin America to establish a comprehensive strategic partnership with China. In recent years, under the joint strategic guidance of their leaders, the two countries are increasingly becoming reliable friends with a shared future and positive forces for peace, Xi said, adding that the China-Brazil relationship is at its best in history.

This marks another historic moment in China-Brazil relations. It meets the expectations of both peoples, gives impetus and support to the modernization of the two countries, and demonstrates their resolve to jointly defend international fairness and justice and promote common development of the world, Xi said.

Xi remarked that Pele, often regarded as the king of football, once expressed that the most beautiful goal is always the next one. Similarly, Xi suggested, the most wonderful chapter of China-Brazil relations is also yet to come.

Keeping in mind the future of humanity and the people’s well-being, China is ready to work with Brazil to continually enrich bilateral relations in the new era, be “golden partners” who help each other succeed, and keep working toward the goal of building a community with a shared future for humanity and creating a more just world and a more sustainable planet, Xi said.

Together, China and Brazil will make even greater contribution to the peace and progress of humanity, Xi added. –The Daily Mail-China Daily news exchange item
