ISLAMABAD: Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Governor Faisal Karim Kundi has urged the government to rename Islamabad Airport after Benazir Bhutto.
In a letter to President Asif Ali Zardari and Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, Kundi highlighted that on June 21, 2008, the then prime minister had announced naming the airport as Benazir Bhutto International Airport.
A formal notification was also issued by the Civil Aviation Authority on July 17, 2008, but it was never implemented. The governor emphasised that naming the airport would be a tribute to the later leader.
Earlier, The Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) ran the first test flight to the under-construction new Airport to check its runway.
