BEIJING: Chinese Premier Li Qiang said on Monday that China is ready to work with Malaysia to deepen exchanges and collaboration across various fields and jointly usher in a new “Golden 50 Years” for bilateral ties guided by the principles of mutual respect and trust, equality, and mutual benefit for win-win outcomes.
Li made the remarks while meeting with Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim in Kuala Lumpur.
China and Malaysia should continue expanding trade and investment cooperation with a focus on cutting-edge areas, including the digital economy, the green economy and artificial intelligence, Li said, adding that both countries should promote the integrated development of production and supply chains, value chains, etc., steadily advance the construction of key projects such as “Two Countries, Two Parks” and the East Coast Rail Link, and strengthen the economic growth engine of the China-Malaysia community with a shared future.
The Chinese premier also said China is willing to work with Malaysia to implement the mutual visa exemption agreement, deepen cultural, educational, health, sports, and other people-to-people exchanges and cooperation, and strengthen the emotional bonds between the peoples of the two countries in building a China-Malaysia community with a shared future.
Noting unilateralism and protectionism are on the rise, Li said as participants in and beneficiaries of economic globalization, China, the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN), and the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries should enhance coordination and jointly uphold open regionalism and true multilateralism. Li added that the convening of the upcoming ASEAN-China-GCC Summit is of particular significance.
Noting Malaysia is the ASEAN Chair and host country of this trilateral summit, Li said China stands ready to work closely with Malaysia to leverage this summit as an opportunity to advance trilateral economic cooperation, establish a model for global development partnership, jointly safeguard free trade and the multilateral trading system, address global challenges in concert, and inject more stability, certainty and positive energy into this turbulent world.
For his part, Anwar said China is Malaysia’s good neighbor and trusted partner.
Malaysia stands ready to work hand in hand with China to continuously expand trade and investment cooperation, scale up flagship projects, including the “Two Countries, Twin Parks” and East Coast Rail Link, and broaden collaboration in areas including new energy, finance, natural resources and artificial intelligence, Anwar said.
He added that Malaysia firmly upholds multilateralism and supports China’s accession to the Comprehensive and Progressive Agreement for Trans-Pacific Partnership.
