ISLAMABAD: Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) leader Saba Talpur took oath as a Member of National As-sembly (MNA) on Monday following her victory in NA-213 Umerkot-I by-election.
The oath was administered by Deputy Speaker Ghulam Mustafa Shah, after which she signed the as-sembly’s registration roll.
Talpur won the seat by defeating independent candidate Lal Chand Malhi, who was supported by Pa-kistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), Grand Democratic Alliance (GDA), and others.
Earlier, President Asif Ali Zardari congratulated Saba Talpur on her victory in the by-election in NA-213.
In a statement, he said Saba Talpur’s triumph is a reflection of the trust of the people of NA-213 in the Pakistan People’s Party.
The President expressed hope that Saba Talpur will come up to the expectations of people of her con-stituency in accordance with the ideology of Pakistan People’s Party.
He emphasized that Saba Talpur should work for the solution of the problems of her constituency and for the welfare of the people.
In April, Saba Talpur clinched by-election in NA 213 (Umarkot) with a lead of over 74,000 votes.
The PPP candidate secured the seat after bagging 148,965 votes followed by Lal Malhi, an independent candidate fielded by Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) and other opposition parties, as per results of all 498 polling stations of the constituency.
Lal Malhi could only managed to get 74,515 votes. The NA 213 seat fell vacant after demise of PPP MNA leader Nawab Yousaf Talpur. –Agencies
