Emergency Education Report given to NA Speaker

ISLAMABAD: The Parliamentary Caucus on Child Rights (PCCR) submitted a comprehensive report titled “Parliamentary Engagement for National Strategy on Education Emergency” to National Assembly Speaker Sardar Ayaz Sadiq and Secretary General Tahir Hussain here on Monday.
Led by Convenor Dr. Nikhat Shakeel Khan, the PCCR delegation included MNAs Syed Ali Qaim Gillani, Asia Naz Tanoli, Danyal Chaudhry, Sofia Saeed, Dr. Shahida Rehmani, Syeda Shehla Raza, and Zahra Wadood Fatemi.
The report, developed after six months of nationwide consultations, proposes a strategic framework to tackle Pakistan’s education crisis following the Prime Minister’s declaration of a National Education Emergency
With 26.3 million out-of-school children in the country, the report highlights legislative priorities, systemic gaps, and a roadmap for parliamentary action to ensure inclusive and quality education.
During the meeting, PCCR members stressed the need for strong legislative oversight and interprovincial coordination to address the emergency.
Speaker Ayaz Sadiq and Secretary General Tahir Hussain commended the caucus for its efforts, calling the initiative a critical step toward education reform.
The PCCR reaffirmed its commitment to advocating for children’s rights and ensuring equitable access to education nationwide.
Key recommendations included strengthen federal-provincial collaboration, increase education budget allocation, address barriers to enrollment (poverty, infrastructure, gender disparity) and enhance parliamentary oversight on policy implementation.
The report has been forwarded to relevant stakeholders for further action.
