Beijing: China’s domestically developed QBZ-191 automatic rifle has received an accuracy boost with the addition of tactical scopes, and is expected to undergo further upgrades, a developer of the weapon said in an official media report on Monday.
The military channel of China Central Television (CCTV) recently visited the assembly workshop of the China South Industries Group Corporation (CSGC) Jianshe Industry, where the QBZ-191 rifles are produced and calibrated before delivery to the military.
According to a developer at Jianshe Industry, a key feature of the QBZ-191 is a standard full-length rail on top that can accommodate a range of dedicated tactical attachments, such as telescopic or night vision sights, CCTV reported.
They can greatly increase the accuracy of the rifle, enabling 20-shot groupings of within three centimeters, according to the CCTV report, which further elaborated that the concept of accuracy consists of bullet density and precision. Bullet density means the density of bullet impact points, and the closer the bullets land, the more precise the weapon is.
The QBZ-191 fires 5.8mm rounds that have an effective range of 800 meters, allowing the rifle to conduct suppressive fire at medium to close ranges.
In the future, the QBZ-191 will continue to be upgraded, to better serve the military, the developer said, though his name was not disclosed in the report.
At the Airshow China 2021 where the QBZ-191 made its expo debut, a designer told the Global Times that compared to the QBZ-95 automatic rifle that is widely in service with the Chinese People’s Liberation Army and the Armed Police Force, the QBZ-191 uses a conventional configuration with greatly improved ergonomics, ambidextrous usability, and better reliability across different environments. Troops who have used the QBZ-191 reportedly expressed high satisfaction with its accuracy.
