Pakistan, Tajikistan pledge stronger defence cooperation in high-level military talks

RAWALPINDI: A high-level military meeting took place on Friday as Major General Saidzoda Bobojon Abdukodir, Chief of the General Staff of the Armed Forces and First Deputy Minister of Defence of the Republic of Tajikistan, called on General Sahir Shamshad Mirza, Chairman Joint Chiefs of Staff Committee (CJCSC), at Joint Staff Headquarters.

The meeting, held at the military nerve centre, centred around the evolving regional security landscape and areas of mutual strategic interest, the military’s media wing said in a statement on Friday.

Both sides reaffirmed the brotherly ties between Pakistan and Tajikistan, expressing commitment to enhancing defence cooperation and collaboration in matters of regional stability.

According to the statement issued by Inter Services Public Relations (ISPR), the Tajik dignitary appreciated the professionalism of the Pakistan Armed Forces. He also paid tribute to Pakistan’s sacrifices in the ongoing fight against terrorism, acknowledging its leading role in promoting peace and security in the region.

Upon his arrival at the Joint Staff Headquarters, Major General Saidzoda was received with full military honours. A smartly turned-out tri-services contingent presented a Guard of Honour to mark the occasion.
