President Xi calls for promotion of spirit of volunteerism

BEIJING: President Xi Jinping has called for the promotion of the spirit of volunteerism to advance the building of a great modern socialist country in all aspects and to achieve national rejuvenation.
Xi, who is also general secretary of the Communist Party of China Central Committee and chairman of the Central Military Commission, made the remarks in a congratulatory letter sent to the third congress of the China Volunteer Service Federation, which concluded on Friday.
In his message, Xi emphasized that volunteer service is an important indicator of social progress and civilization, and it serves as a vital channel for volunteers to help others and make contributions to society.
He encouraged volunteers, volunteer organizations and volunteer workers to strive to convey the values of truth, goodness and beauty and spread positive energy in their service to the country’s initiatives, the wellbeing of the people and social governance.
The China Volunteer Service Federation, established in 2013, is a national, non-profit social organization.
China has seen a significant increase in the number of registered volunteers in recent years. As of the end of November 2024, the total number of registered volunteers in China had reached 238 million, with 1.35 million registered volunteer teams, according to official statistics.

The article by Xi, also Chinese president and chairman of the Central Military Commission, will be published in this year’s 23rd issue of the Qiushi Journal, a flagship magazine of the CPC Central Committee.
Strengthening full and rigorous Party self-governance by starting with Party conduct is an important experience the Party has acquired for its self-reform in the new era, the article says.
Noting the arduous tasks in realizing Chinese modernization and a complicated governance environment facing the Party, the article stresses the importance of enhancing understanding of the Party’s self-reform, which will improve the Party’s image and public trust, motivate Party members and officials, and ensure robust political support for high-quality development.
