From drones to AI cameras: Safe City emerges as vigilant eye of Capital

ISLAMABAD: Safe City Islamabad conducted over 97,000 surveillance operations in 2025, strengthened security through advanced technology and real-time monitoring, and enhanced public safety with AI-based monitoring and digital services.
Under the vision of Inspector General of Police (IGP) Islamabad Syed Ali Nasir Rizvi, the Safe City Islamabad is rapidly progressing and establishing a new identity based on modern technology, timely response, and transparent operations.
In addition to being the monitoring division of the federal capital, Safe City Islamabad serves as a vigilant, modern, and ever-alert eye. During 2025, Safe City cameras carried out 97,506 surveillance operations covering unregistered vehicles, suspicious individuals, sensitive buildings, and public places.
With the help of Safe City cameras, numerous high-profile cases throughout the year including robbery, terrorism, and street crime cases were brought to their logical conclusion. Similarly, during Muharram-ul-Haram, drone cameras, smart cars, and the advanced Safe City system remained operational at all times to secure the routes of over 1,000 religious gatherings and more than 120 processions.

This year, Safe City Islamabad ensured real-time monitoring and security for every major event held in the city, including national and international delegations, major sports events, and political activities. In 2025, around 200 national and international delegations visited Safe City Islamabad.
Additionally, 696 AI-based facial recognition and ANPR cameras were added, playing a significant role in crime prevention. During the current year, Safe City Islamabad introduced the Hunch Lab and Golden Hour System, under which immediate response was provided in 326 important cases, while initial legal proceedings in 63 cases were initiated directly from there.
Through Hunch Lab, virtual police officers identified 101 dangerous groups, out of which 82 groups were arrested and legal action was initiated. Likewise, through the Hotel Eye System, data of 11,45,992 individuals was recorded, and based on this digital identification, more than 300 proclaimed offenders and court absconders were apprehended.
Safe City’s digital control room provided guidance to 7,045,755 citizens throughout the year. During the same period, services ranging from tenant registration to foreigner registration, vehicle verification, missing reports, and medical certificates were provided under a single integrated system, all of which were monitored on a priority basis through the Safe City digital control room.
Through the Complaint Management System, 78,533 complaints were recorded, marking a new chapter in transparency and public facilitation. The Online Women Police Station helpline 1815 received 90,534 calls, of which 2,719 were related to police matters and were resolved promptly.
In 2025, the “Pucar-15” emergency helpline received more than 1,578,000 calls. Of these, police provided immediate response to 190,157 calls, while guidance was provided to 1,069,240 citizens. For the first time in 2025, a Quality Assurance Desk was established to analyze every call, train call-takers, and improve the standard of emergency response.
During the year, the Safe City E-challan system issued 11,372 digital challans, strengthening enforcement of traffic laws. Similarly, to ensure public safety, the Online Taxi Verification App and One Info App were introduced. Through the taxi app, 3,500 passengers, 15,362 drivers, and 15,310 taxis were registered, while immediate legal action was taken on 1,495 emergency calls. Likewise, through the One Info App, citizens shared 1,206 different types of information with the police, and 1,475 emergency calls were made through the app, on which immediate police assistance was provided.
In 2025, a WeChat service was also introduced for the convenience of the Chinese community residing in Islamabad, enabling Chinese-speaking police officers to provide them with direct, secure, and rapid assistance.
Director General Safe City Islamabad Muhammad Haroon Joya, stated that Safe City Islamabad is ensuring the protection of citizens’ lives and property, crime prevention, smooth traffic flow on roads, and round-the-clock monitoring of important locations, including entry and exit points of the city.
He further stated that through modern technology, advanced cameras, and an integrated monitoring system, city security has been further enhanced, and timely and effective response is being provided in any emergency situation.
DG Safe City added that Safe City Islamabad is continuously working to provide citizens with a safe, peaceful, and well-organized environment, and for this purpose, close coordination and cooperation with all relevant institutions has been established. He urged citizens to play their role in establishing a safe and peaceful Islamabad by immediately reporting suspicious activities to the police.
