Iran’s Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi has accused United States officials of spreading “fake news” in an attempt to influence global markets, warning that such actions would not shield Americans from rising inflation.
In a statement shared on social media alongside an infographic comparing historical oil price shocks, Araghchi said Washington was attempting to manipulate market sentiment at a time when energy supplies were tightening.
“US officials are posting fake news to manipulate markets,” he said, adding that the move would not protect the country from what he described as an “inflationary tsunami” caused by its own policies.
The Iranian minister also warned that global markets were facing what he called the largest supply shortfall in history.
According to Araghchi, the deficit was bigger than the combined impact of major past disruptions including the 1973 Arab oil embargo, the Iranian Revolution, and Iraqi invasion of Kuwait. –Agencies
