ISLAMABAD: President Asif Ali Zardari on Tuesday paid tribute to Pakistan’s security forces for successfully eliminating 22 militants linked to Fitna al-Khawarij during an operation in North Waziristan.
The president commended the professionalism and effective action of the security forces against the militants, whom, he said, were operating with Indian backing, a Presidency’s news release said.
President Zardari said the use of local civilians as human shields by Fitna al-Khawarij militants was clear evidence of their brutality and anti-human conduct.
He also praised the courage, morale and sacrifices of the troops participating in ongoing counter-terrorism operations under the Azm-e-Istehkam campaign, reaffirming the nation’s resolve to eradicate terrorism from the country.
The president reiterated Pakistan’s commitment to continuing decisive actions against militant elements threatening peace and stability. –Agencies
