Pakistan and 13 other countries have condemned the opening of a purported “Somaliland” embassy in occupied Jerusalem, calling the step “illegal and unacceptable”.
In a joint statement issued from Islamabad, the countries said the move constituted “a flagrant violation of international law and relevant international resolutions” and directly infringed on the legal and historical status of occupied Jerusalem.
They also reaffirmed their “categorical rejection” of any unilateral measures aimed at entrenching an illegal reality in occupied Jerusalem or giving legitimacy to arrangements that violate international law and United Nations resolutions.
The statement reiterated that East Jerusalem has been occupied Palestinian territory since 1967, adding that any measures intended to alter its legal and historical status are “null and void and without legal effect”.
It also expressed full support for the “unity, sovereignty, and territorial integrity” of Somalia and rejected any unilateral measures that undermine Somali territory or infringe upon its sovereignty. –Agencies
