ISLAMABAD: Anti-Terrorism Court (ATC) in Islamabad handed the suspect, Saad Abbasi, into 14-day judicial custody for an identification parade. A First Information Report (FIR) was registered at the Margalla Police Station earlier under both murder and terrorism charges.
According to details, Islamabad Police arrested the primary suspect, 20-year-old Saad Abbasi, within nine hours of the fatal shooting of Pakistan Air Force (PAF) Group Captain Asim Tariq. The officer was murdered after bravely intervening to protect a woman from a suspected kidnapping and harassment attempt near Shaheen Chowk on Ninth Avenue.
On 9th Avenue, Group Captain Asim spotted the suspect forcing a woman onto a motorcycle. After the officer intervened, the suspect left but later returned in a vehicle, firing a fatal shot at the officer’s chest before fleeing. Investigators utilized Safe City CCTV cameras, Artificial Intelligence (AI), and Call Data Records (CDR) to track the suspect, eventually tracing him to a Lahore-bound bus at the Faizabad Bus Terminal.
