Section 144 enforced in Karachi amid security concerns

KARACHI: Section 144 has been imposed in Karachi until October 20, banning gatherings of more than five people, rallies, processions, protests and sit-ins, according to a notification.
Karachi Commissioner has issued an order for the enforcement of Section 144 across the city.
The notification stated that the restrictions have been imposed in view of road blockages and concerns over the law and order situation. Under the order, gatherings of more than five people, public rallies, processions, protests and sit-ins are prohibited until October 20.
Meanwhile, the federal government has issued a notification for the deployment of Pakistan Army troops in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa to assist the civil administration. The deployment has been approved under Article 245 of the Constitution for the duration of the emergency declared on October 11. According to the notification, the deployment aims to protect the lives and property of citizens and government installations in the province. The Pakistan Army will assist the civil administration in maintaining law and order in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, the notification stated. It said the KP governor, in consultation with General Headquarters (GHQ), would determine the number of troops and resources required for the deployment.
