BEIJING: Jiangsu province has continued to strengthen intellectual property development, with the number of high-value invention patents reaching more than 292,000 by the end of 2025, accounting for nearly 13 percent of the national total, an official from China’s top IP regulator said.
Han Aipeng, head of the IP Utilization Promotion Department at the National Intellectual Property Administration, said Jiangsu had established nine national-level IP protection centers and seven stations for resolving IP disputes.
With support from the administration, the province has also established 14 platforms to help enterprises address IP-related issues overseas. The platforms have helped enterprises recover 170 million yuan ($25.5 million) in economic losses since the start of the year, Han said.
As a major economic, scientific, educational and manufacturing hub, Jiangsu has stepped up efforts to improve the quality and efficiency of IP creation, application, protection, management and services, said Zhang Chuanbo, deputy director of the Intellectual Property Office of Jiangsu Province.
By the end of 2025, the province had 34.2 high-value invention patents per 10,000 people, 2.1 times the national average. It also had 3.35 million valid registered trademarks, an increase of 79.6 percent from the end of the 13th Five-Year Plan period (2016-20), Zhang said. Suzhou, Nanjing and Zhenjiang were also included among the World Intellectual Property Organization’s top 100 global innovation clusters this year, he added.
To strengthen IP protection, Jiangsu has assembled a team of more than 660 experts to provide legal services to enterprises facing IP disputes overseas, with particular attention to emerging fields such as artificial intelligence.
“We’ve launched a five-year action plan to enhance the synergy between AI and IP, and established three key infrastructure facilities: the Jiangsu IP digital-intelligent innovation empowerment center, the Jiangsu IP trusted data space, and the Jiangsu IP digital innovation laboratory,” Zhang said.
The integration of IP and AI has become a defining feature of Jiangsu’s efforts to promote high-quality IP development, providing digital and intelligent support for the development of new quality productive forces, he added. –The Daily Mail-China Daily news exchange item
